Scholarships for Foster Youth

Whenever anyone hears or has been in a foster care system, it can be very difficult to find college tuition opportunities. In this case, there is a section of scholarships solely available to foster youth. In the United States, there is a large amount of youth that are inducted into foster care. The number hovers around 1 million but has sadly grown past that, at this point. We need to help foster children so they can have a better future.  Scholarships for college students who were foster youth is now a very real new addition to the college funding world.

This list of scholarships is under another name called the Casey Family Programs. Located in Seattle, this program offers finical assistance to freshmen in community college, technical or career-based programs in all 50 states. Awards for each student can be a combination of $2,500 – $5,000 based on merit scholarships. For as long as 4-5 years of availability that foster youth can receive consistent finical support.  Distance learning is available to foster youth.

Each State Has Funding Opportunities

This is correct, all 50 states are ensuring that all foster youth has a way to attend college or earn an online degree. Some states pay for all access and ne need for students to pay for their tuition. Or states will pay a first-year enrollment with a superior reward with their online education scholarships. Or online college courses available to foster youth.

  • Maryland – Maryland Waiver available to students who attend high school but as also being fostered by a foster parent or currently in foster care. An online education opportunity is available.
  • South Dakota – scholarship worth $3,000 per year to foster students to attend college.
  • Virginia – Virginia Tuition Grants – Great Expectations to help with continued support throughout college.
  • Kansas – waiver program – always students to attend state college with no need for payment from the student.
  • Texas – Texas Provision – since 2003 Texas is assisting with higher high school education for foster youth so they can attend college without challenges. 

Most states are opting for an online college courses, an online degree, or online distance learning to continue forth these scholarships.
